Thank you to the lovely Koalas and Bilbies for their lovely manners and work this year. It has been a delight to teach you! Sorry mums and dads that we have been quiet this term, but we have been very busy doing mini information reports using World Book Online for our information. We hope you enjoyed looking at our reports.

We really loved colouring in Alfie the worm every time we liked a book we read in library. We liked them all!!! We also set our summer holiday reading targets to give to Santa this week. We hope you liked them!

Have a wonderful holiday and see you in 2011.

Merry Christmas!

The Stroogle has been to visit!

Monday, September 20, 2010

Hello,

We had lots of fun meeting the author and illustrator of the popular books, 'The Stroogle' today. He taught us this funny rhyme to go with his pie-rat book!

It was fun!

We are bringing our book week work home!

Thursday, September 9, 2010

Dear mums and dads,

We are so ecited to be bringing our book week work home today. Some of us did not finish everything, so we may get to finish it at home. We hope you like our work! We would have taken a picture, but the camera was being used-sorry!

Next Monday is Roald Dahl Day so we may be hearing some of his funny stories soon!

Plus, we are very excited about the Stroogle author coming to visit us in week 10!

Hello from Koalas

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Dear mums and dads,

Welcome to our work. Welcome to our library lesson. We have been reading nice stories. Today we read 'The Wrong Book' and it was funny! It was so funny and we liked it! We're looking forward to getting dressed up next week for Book Week.
Love Koalas xoxo

Book Week is nearly here -from Bilbies

We have a very special picture to show you. It is a picture all about Nicholas Ickle from 'The Wrong Book.' This is one of the books that has been chosen for Book Week and we really like this book. About 6 of us think that 'The Wrong Book' will win the award! Our other two favourites are 'Fearless' and 'The Terrible Plop.' A few weeks ago we even left Fearless a message on the computer! We have had fun reading and doing activities on the Book Week books and we are looking forward to getting dressed up next week.
Love Bilbies xoxo

Book Week

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Hello from Bilbies and Koalas!

Today we read the book 'Kip' by Christina Booth. It is about a rooster that lives in the city and keeps everybody awake! Eventually it moves to the country and is much happier.

We made little Kip booklets to help us to remember the story of Kip. We had a front cover and then a page on Kip in the city and Kip in the country. In some of our city pictures, Kip was crowing on top of a skyscaper. All of the book week work is being put in our Book Week folder so that we can bring it all home at once and show you what we have been reading and what we have been up to! Next week we will read 'The Wrong Book' and we are looking forward to that.

We are getting very good at knowing the difference between fiction and non fiction and can point to these different sections of the library. We are very clever!

Bye for now.
Love Koalas and Bilbies :)

Book Week!

Thursday, July 1, 2010

We will be celebrating Book Week next term and today we had some fun coloring in posters for Book Week. We think our coloring in is getting much better. What do you think? We tried hard to stay in the lines when we coloured in today. We also read two more books-'Kip' and 'Bear and Chook by the Sea.' They were good!
We hope you have a great school holidays!
Love Koalas and Bilbies :)

Bonjour from Bilbies!

Thursday, June 24, 2010

In our library time today we read 'The Chicken Goes to Paris.' We read this book because it has been chosen for Book Week in August. We learnt that the word 'bonjour' means hello! We drew pictures of other places Mr Chicken could visit and stuck him in these places. It was fun! We know this is a fiction book because it is made up and just for fun!

Learning about Fiction...and Dinosaurs!

Thursday, June 17, 2010

I didn't have a chance to write this entry with Early Stage 1 today during their library lesson, because we were just so busy! First, we looked at the books nominated for book of the year for book week 2010. Then, we listened to the story 'Dinosaur in the Park' on the SMARTboard complete with sound effects. This tied in beautifully with their excursion to the dinosaur show yesterday.

We drew parks on paper plates and then coloured in a dinosaur and stuck him on top so that he was in the park just like in the book. The students are learning the term 'fiction' and 'non fiction' and most were able to tell me that this story was a fiction story-made up! Congratulations Bilbies and Koalas. You are a delight! Bilbies are pictured with the finished product! feel free to leave a comment.

Cheers,
Mrs Ramage :)

What we have done so far...

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Since we have already hit June (and hasn't the time flown?!!), I thought I'd bring you up to date with what has been happening in library lessons so far.

In Term One, students studied a topic called 'Love Your Library' where they became familiar with the layout and we read lots of books and did fun activities based around these books.

In Term Two, we have been studying a topic called 'The Story of Me' where students have been learning about asking questions, where to find the best information (in this case, the answer was from you-their parents and guardians!) and next term, we are moving onto our preparations for Book Week which will be held in August. Students will do activities based on all of the nominated books for younger readers and look at the picture books.

It has been a pleasure to teach Early Stage One and I hope you enjoy following their journey through this medium. We have decided to launch this due to the lack of computers in the library at present whilst we await our great new library as this blog helps to expose the students to technology-one of the skills they pick up in library lessons.

Cheers,
Mrs Ramage :)

Welcome to Kindy's Library blog!

Welcome! Kindy have been doing such fantastic work in library this year that we wanted to share it with you! We will write some comments in class and we would love to read some replies from home so feel free to write back.
Happy blogging,
Mrs Ramage and Early Stage One :)
